Power is sent back through a Borg Warner 5-speed transmission and the transfer case to 3.31 ratio axles. Even the under-hood light still works! There is a new master cylinder and brake booster, and along with power steering and the factory A/C compressor which sits proudly over the top of the alternator, there is a heavy-duty cooling system. It is stock and basically untouched except for good maintenance. Under the hood you will find the tried and true 258 cubic inch, in-line 6-cylinder engine. Oil pressure and voltage gauges are on the right side just above the JVC stereo. The center of the dash contains the speedometer with the ventilation controls along the left side which include those for the factory air conditioning. There is an analog clock to the left and a small tach to the right of the column. There is a leather wrapped steering wheel mounted on a tilt column that feels good in your hands. Beautiful and comfortable high back bucket seats are black with pleated seating surfaces and trimmed with silver inserts.
A door panel with a pleated upper and smooth lower vinyl panel is underlined by a carpeted bottom section. Inside you will find upscale trim along with comfort and convenience items that people today expect and which were provided back in the day with this Laredo package. The removable half top has a nice touch in the way it integrates nicely with the door for a unified look and chrome Jeep wheels with 31x10.50s look just perfect on this pickup. A swing away spare tire gives good access to the pickup bed which you can tell by the paint has seen a little bit of use, but not abuse.
An appearance package dresses up the gloss black paint with two-tone silver stripes on the hood which also trace around the fenders and along the rocker panels with Scrambler appearing in script on the hood. It's a good-looking vehicle which leads with a chrome bumper with that iconic 7-slotted grill dressed in chrome too. You can tell that it has lead a comfortable life because nothing it has been through has been covered up or reconditioned. It is the original, factory applied Black paint job and is in excellent condition for its age. Let's start by checking out the survivor paint. This very balance of a well optioned vehicle with the capability of a small pickup is enjoying a resurgence today as evidenced by the popularity of similar vehicles offered by several manufacturers. Adding the Laredo package provided for some nice upgrades including factory A/C and makes it an even more rare find. It was recognized as functional and useful to some, but few buyers seemed to appreciate that, and production numbers were low. The foresight of the design and packaging was popular among Jeep and off-road enthusiasts, but it was probably a bit ahead of its time.
